I have been a Koda Kumi's fan since 2003 but TABOO was the single that really made me a crazy stan. The sound, the lyrics, the video, the choreography, the artworks, the outfit, the b-side...everything was just perfect. If the previous single MOON personally failed to generate some kind of hype for her then upcoming new album TRICK, TABOO really got me super excited.

Here's my review:

 

01. TABOO Was a real game-changer! The production is simply amazing and it sounds fresh still today. In 2008 those kinds of songs weren't that common among mainstream pop as dance superstar Lady Gaga was just debutting in the States and wasn't really that popular yet. It was also the very first club anthem fo Kumi who up to that moment has been more into rnb, pop and rock sounds. This song is iconic and perfect 10/10 

 

02. Always this b-side is simple and sweet! It's not a typical ballad, it's more like a RnB midtempo with a perfect melody and warm vocals. The chorus is amazing and moving while the production is gentle and hypnotic, I never get bored of this little gem 9/10

 

03. TABOO [HOUSE NATION Sunset In Ibiza Remix] Is a cool extra on this single, I really loved the acoustic guitar twist and how they changed the verse. The bass drop is not that powerful but overall is a fun remix

 

04. TABOO - Instrumental It's always great to have the original stem on the single to listen to all the details of the productions. Listening to this you clearly understand how much Kumi contributed to make this song so awsome

 

05. Always - Instrumental I could use this one as a morning alarm!
